LOCATIONS

Suburban Turban is set against the thriving, multi-ethnic streets of Queens, New York, where strands of Bollywood hits blend with hip-hop.  

Jackson Heights is home to Ravi Singh's family, where they also run a corner grocery store.  Queens is known for its diversity and deeply rooted immigrant population from India, Pakistan, and Latin America.  Check out the neighborhood below.

As we move into fundraising for Suburban Turban, we will be securing the following locations to shoot our movie.  If you have any suggestions for locations, we would love to hear from you.  Locations can double for Queens, NY, or interiors can be shot in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.  Email  your pics for our Photo Gallery.

Singh Spices and Video

This is the family grocery store that Ravi's parents own and operate in Queens, NY.  It also has a small seating area for Chai (tea) where regulars lounge, and a video rental counter.

Desi Audio

Desi Audio is a music store.  Ravi and his friends frequent Desi Audio to hang out and listen to urban-Indian fusion music.  Desi is old school, new school.  It serves the older generation and the BIUSA generation.

The Bottom

The Bottom is the club where DJ Alok holds the US Spin-off Championship.  The Bottom is an underground space where young DJ's and musicians merge to battle each other.  It is cave like, organic and vibrant.

Kiki’s Hair Salon

Kiki runs a Colombian hair salon in Queens, NY.  She is the Aunt of Celeste, the girl who steals Ravi's heart.  Open 12 hours a day, the salon is intimate, lively and full of colorful characters (all women) who come in to gossip as much as getting their hair done!

Nail Salon

Ravi's big sister Tejinder visits the Indian-owned nail salon where she and her high school friend Bubbly share stories while getting their eyebrows threaded.
